Who are we?

"Human" is an animal which consumes the most of natural resources in the world. Human has a rapid revolution as it can be seen from some evidences. For example, two million years ago, human was a cave-living animal, yet he changed from this status only one night to an industrial man. As someone said, human is both creator and destructor. Although human is the weakest animal in the world, human himself has an ability to think and develop many things as he wants. For instance, if you leave many kinds of new born babies alone themselves, the first creature to die is human. The more human develops, the more his needs expand. Human tries to change nature to fulfill his needs. In contrast, all other animals live their life after their environment. It can be said that human lives to eat while any other animal eats to live. However, the most distinguish difference between human and animals is that human has his own thoughts. Human can conduct or live a life as he wants. He can pursue the happiness. On the other hand, animals live their life according to their instinct only. This reason may be the most important reason that differentiates human from animals.

Dao,
What an interesting (and possible even depressing) definition you have made. Certainly if I was a "man from mars" and studied the state of this planet, I might indeed see that humans are the ones who are rapidly using up all the resources of this world. Your comments on our 'weakness' as babies are well taken, as are your thoughts about our rapid growth. One thought is that these two things are connected. The long gestation and childhood period of humans gives us time to socialize our children and pass along our culture and knowledge to them. This training of children is so important that we seem to be the only species that has institutionalized school as something that children must attend. Your comments about 'living to eat' make me a bit uncomfortable, because I think I am putting on weight. Perhaps its time I was a little less 'human', and also ate a bit less as well.
Thank you for your response to this questions.

Dear John,

Thank you very much for your comment. I do agree with you that my writing sounds so depressing and pessimistic, yet I must say that I am not a fundamentalist for sure. :)

It seems to me from your opinion that humans are trying to control the world. If we continue to use up all the resources in this world, we will no longer have a place to live.
